At present, our Group mainly offers preparation for taking the test in a Car. We are able to offer limited guidance for the Commercial test however. Please contact us to find out further details on commercial vehicle preparation.
The IAM also offer separate tests for Commercial vehicles, Minibuses, Caravans and Trailers, and Motorcycles. If you would like details about these please contact IAM headquarters directly.
If you want to find out if your driving skills are up to the standard required to pass the IAM Advanced Driving Test you can come along to one of the Check Drive sessions (click on Diary above for dates) and take a FREE public assessment drive. There is no obligation to join the Group at this point, but if you wish to undertake any further check drives you will need to become an Associate Member of the Group before you do so. More information on joining the Group and applying for your test (costs etc.) is available here.
We (and 200 or so other groups around the country) offer preparation for the test, but do not carry out the tests ourselves. The test is conducted by IAM appointed Examiners. They are selected by IAM Headquarters, and are all serving or retired Police Officers. The test is conducted to an approved standard (monitored by the Driving Standards agency). This way the Examiners remain independant of the Groups, and conduct all tests across the country to the same standard.
All of our Observers have passed the IAM Advanced Driving Test, and have had further training before taking Associate Members out on check drives. All of our Senior Observers have passed a further Senior Observer Test with an IAM Examiner.
There is a Motorcycle Group in Coventry, who now meet on the same Sunday mornings at the same venue as the car group. If you would like to contact them, please contact the Motorcycle Group Secretary or come along on a check drive morning (click on Diary above for dates) and speak to them directly.
